Slave Registers contain information on registration of slaves including individuals and families. This was carried out approximately every three years. Arranged in chronological order, from 1813-1834 with a break from 1816-1819, and thereafter by plantation or registered owner of slaves. The register records names of slaves, age, colour, sex, occupation, country of origin; they also provide information on births, deaths, changes in ownership, relatives. The mother’s name is occasionally noted. Father’s names are rarely recorded. The original registers are located at the National Archives United Kingdom reference numbers T71/501-519 (Trinidad) and T71/461-492 (Tobago).
